Fragile Crown & Earrings 2016, Pierced Sterling Silver sheet, wire, and chain, pearls. The power of words define who we are and are a play on words - delicate, ornate paper doily pattern integrated with words.
Glamour Crown 2010, Pierced and wire stamped Brass sheet. The ornate crown’s design is inspired by an antique doily patterned placemat that I interwove the word glamour into the pattern. The play of materials being cheap, base metal (Fool’s Gold) for the material with the concept that anyone wearing a crown is of royalty or money. In this world; it’s all about appearances and knockoffs.
A La Mode Crown 2010, Sterling Silver & Found object. Concept – A la mode is a French term meaning “in the fashion” with the decorative interplay of the antique dish inspiring the crown’s stamped patterns and piercings. This term was adopted by Americans to mean ‘ice cream on top or on the side”. For the wearer of the crown, one can see the double-entendre of the words interpreted as either “fashionable” or a “delicious side dish”. The interwoven words address the power of words to define us. Tacky Crown 2010, Pierced Nickel sheet & found objects,- upholstery tacks and plastic. Concept – A crown symbolizes royalty, money and power and is made from precious materials. The materials of the Tacky Crown are made from base metals and hardware store tacks. This interplay of materials creates a visual mockery with one side of the crown looking stately and elegant, whilst the other side is spiky and dangerous.
